FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Who is HOPPY Time designed for?

HOPPY Time is designed for parents and children ages 3–6 to use together at home, with activities that support foundational school-readiness skills.

It is built around positive screen time and meaningful parent-child interaction — using technology to encourage families to talk, play, move, imagine, explore, and learn together.

What is the HOPPY Time curriculum based on?

HOPPY Time is built using HIPPY International’s evidence-based, school readiness curriculum, developed through decades of experience supporting early childhood learning and parent engagement.

HOPPY Time brings this educational foundation into a new digital format, creating an evidence-informed, shared learning experience designed for parents and children. The activities guide parents and children to learn, play, explore, and interact together while developing the child’s school-readiness skills.

What skills does HOPPY Time help develop?

HOPPY Time activities are designed to support a broad range of skills that help children prepare for school, including:

  • Language & Early Literacy — receptive and expressive language, vocabulary, listening comprehension, and narrative awareness.
  • Early Math Readiness — counting, sorting and categorizing, comparing quantities, spatial concepts, problem-solving, pattern recognition, and sequencing.
  • Executive Function & Learning Behaviors — self-regulation, impulse control, flexibility, working memory, following directions, attention and task persistence, and growing independence with parent support.
  • Social & Emotional Readiness — identifying emotions, confidence, resilience, turn-taking, and positive adult relationships.
  • Physical & Classroom Readiness — body awareness, coordination, following movement cues, cross-body movement, and energy regulation.

These skills are woven into HOPPY Time’s stories, games, movement, conversation, and hands-on activities, allowing children to practice important school-readiness skills through play and positive interaction with their parents.

What kinds of activities will we do?

HOPPY Time includes four learning environments, each giving parents and children different ways to learn, play, and build school-readiness skills together:

Story Quest — Interactive storytelling where children listen, respond, make choices, and help shape the adventure. Supports vocabulary development, listening comprehension, expressive language, narrative awareness, memory, sequencing, and confidence in participation.

Letter Leap — Playful language and early literacy activities where children explore letters, letter sounds, words, and phonetics together with their parents. Supports phonemic awareness, letter and sound recognition, receptive and expressive language, vocabulary development, listening comprehension, following directions, attention, memory, and pattern recognition.

Science Spark — Hands-on activities where parents and children explore, experiment, compare, and solve problems together using everyday materials. Supports early problem-solving, pattern recognition, sorting and categorizing, comparing quantities, spatial concepts, sequencing, flexibility, and task persistence.

Motion Magic — Active parent-child games that combine movement, listening, and play. Supports body awareness, following movement cues, cross-body movement, energy regulation, following directions, attention and task persistence, impulse control, and working memory.

How does HOPPY Time turn screen time into learning time together?

HOPPY Time is designed to create positive screen time, where technology brings parents and children together rather than replacing their interaction.

The screen acts as a guide, encouraging conversation, storytelling, movement, imagination, exploration, and play. The focus isn’t on what happens between your child and the screen, it’s on what happens between you and your child.

How does HOPPY Time use AI, and is my child’s information safe?

AI helps make HOPPY Time interactive by allowing Hoppy to listen and respond, adapt stories to a child’s ideas, and create personalized elements during activities.

When voice features are used, audio is securely processed by Google’s Gemini service to generate a response. HIPPY International does not save voice recordings or conversation transcripts, and children’s or families’ interactions are not used to train an AI model.

HOPPY Time does not create behavioral or developmental profiles of children or parents. Limited usage information helps us understand how the app is working, but analytics do not include names, voice recordings, conversation transcripts, or free-form conversations.

Does HOPPY Time assess or track my child’s development?

No. HOPPY Time is not an assessment or diagnostic tool and does not score, diagnose, rank, or predict a child’s development or school readiness.

Progress features are designed to encourage families and help them continue their learning journey — not to evaluate a child.

What is the parent’s role in HOPPY Time?

The parent is at the heart of the experience.

HOPPY Time provides the guidance and activities, while you bring the conversation, encouragement, play, and connection. There’s no teaching experience or special preparation required, simply participate alongside your child.

Our philosophy is simple: the first and most important teacher in a child’s life is the parent.

How long does each activity take, and how often should we use HOPPY Time?

Each HOPPY Time activity takes around 20 minutes.

There’s no need to use HOPPY Time every day or follow a fixed schedule. Choose an activity whenever it works for your family, during the week, on the weekend, or whenever you have time to learn and play together.

Do I need to prepare anything before an activity?

Most activities require little or no preparation. For some activities, particularly Science Spark and Motion Magic, you may need a few readily available household items. Any items you’ll need are clearly listed at the beginning of the activity, so you can quickly gather them before you start.

No special educational materials or equipment is required, just around 20 minutes to learn, play, connect and have fun together.
